Once upon a time, a scone married a cookie… and then I ate it! Or should I say them? This past week in New York, I was delightfully introduced to the cookies from Levain Bakery at my baby shower. The name “Levain” which means “yeast” or “to leaven” in French actually makes perfect sense once you get a look at these edible monsters. Imagine that 4 cookies stacked on top of each other just merged into one – and Voila! That is what you can expect! You may think you’ll want to share it, but trust me – don’t make promises you can’t keep.
As friends and family said their goodbyes after the delicious brunch we enjoyed at Jane Restaurant, my sister passed out cookie bags to each guest. The flavours were mix and match: Chocolate Chip Walnut, Oatmeal Raisin, Dark Chocolate Chocolate, and…wait for it….Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip. This last one has given me the confidence to proclaim to the blogosphere that I, Emily Packer, have found the world’s best cookie! Yup, I said it.
If you like peanut butter! If you like chocolate! If you like delicious cookies! If you aren’t crazy!! You will agree with me! It’s like a moist explosion of peanut butter-y goodness in your mouth – a chewy chocolate cookie with big chunks of peanut butter hidden inside. And the best part is, it will take you a few minutes to finish so you’re not left with phantom cookie syndrome (i.e. inhaling the cookie so fast you aren’t mentally prepared for it to be gone so quickly). I would recommend picking up some vanilla ice cream to eat it with, but as my track record has shown (6 cookies in 3 days…I blame the baby) – they are equally yummy all by themselves.
